Altar Boy & Acolyte Ministry

All boys and young men who have been baptized and confirmed in the Orthodox Christian faith, and are at least seven years of age, are strongly encouraged to take advantage of the privilege of serving in the altar of Assumption Church.

For those youth and young adults who are eligible (and to their parents), know that this sacred opportunity and formational ministry, is available to any boy or young man who desires to consistently participate, has a teachable spirit, and is able to responsibly follow directions given during liturgical services. Through active participation in the Divine Liturgy and numerous other worship and prayer services, Assumption's altar and acolyte ministry instructs boys and young men in the ways of our ancient liturgical tradition.

For more information about this holy opportunity, please contact our church office or Fr. Jacob

Myrhbearers

Available to young women, the ministry of Myrrhbearers seeks to develop active participation of its youngest female parishioners in the life of the Church. Beginning at seven years of age, Myrrhbearers serve the Church in special ways and hopefully continue doing so throughout their lives. The scope of the ministry includes:

  • Becoming tonsured Readers of the Sunday Epistle

  • Instruction in preparation of the liturgical breads and koliva (Memorial Wheat)

  • Instruction in care and cleaning of liturgical items

  • Instruction in preparing the Church for feast days

  • Being mentors to younger Myrhbearers

  • Engaging in peer pastoral care and outreach

Meeting periodically for instruction, for more information about this opportunity as well, please contact Fr Andrew, or our church office, directly.
